Ancient art generally refers to those ‘advanced’ civilizations, who had written language, and between c. 5000 BC – 300 AD, thrived in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Mexico, Rome, Japan, China, and India. Art played an important role in these growing societies by providing a means to enforce religious and political order, as well as provide a glimpse into the daily lives of those who produced it.
