Equirria
The Equirria were two festivals dedicated to Mars, the god of war. These festivals featured chariot races or horseback riding and were held in the Campus Martius, a large open field used for military training and public events.

Date: 27th February and 14th March
Deity: Mars
Observances: Horse and chariot racing
They were said to have been founded by Romulus, the mythical founder of Rome and son of Mars. Both festivals are recorded on the oldest known Roman calendars.
The Equirria were part of a cluster of festivals honoring Mars, which took place in the month of March. The other festivals included the Kalends of March, the Agonalia, the Tubilustrium, the October Horse, and the Armilustrium. These festivals were intended to celebrate Mars and ensure the success of military campaigns.
The first Equirria was held on February 27th, which originally preceded the Roman New Year. The second Equirria was held on March 14th, the day before the Ides, a time when the Romans celebrated the feast of Anna Perenna, the goddess of the year.
