Poplifugia

The Poplifugia was a festival celebrated on 5th July to commemorate a time when the Romans fled from their city during during a conflict with the inhabitants of Ficuleae and Fidenae. This crisis occurred shortly after the city had been ravaged by the Gauls.

The Poplifugia was a significant event in Roman history, serving as a reminder of the challenges the Romans faced and their ultimate triumph over their enemies. The festival was also a time to give thanks to the gods for their protection and assistance.

The Poplifugia was followed by two other related festivals: the Nonae Caprotinae on 7th July and the Vitulatio on 8th July. These festivals were also associated with the events of the Poplifugia and served as further commemorations of the Roman victory.
