While unicorns are absent from Greek mythology, they popped up in natural history accounts. Greek writers believed these magnificent one-horned creatures, resembling swift wild asses, roamed the faraway land of India.

Ctesias, an early chronicler, described them in his book “Indika” as having a tri-colored horn – white, red, and black – reaching an impressive 28 inches! However, these fantastical beasts apparently weren’t tasty, as unicorn meat was said to be unpleasantly bitter.
